The second edition of Policing: Concepts, Strategies, and Current Issues in American Police Forces has been updated and revised to address the changes in policing that have occurred in the first decade of the twenty-first century. Issues such as homeland security, terrorism, and the expanded role of community policing have been addressed. However, important components in the first edition that have not changed have been maintained.

Policing provides an in-depth understanding of police work: its history, trends, and strategies of administration and management. Written by a former police officer, this book offers both a practical and a conceptual view of police work and introduces readers to issues missed in other competing books on policing, such as private security and the relevance of constitutional law to police work. The text also covers important topics such as police technology, multiculturalism, police management styles, the Americans with Disabilities Act, AIDS, and community policing (e.g., neighborhood watch programs and Crime Stoppers).

Each chapter begins with a point-by-point overview of the issues addressed. Chapters also include lists of key terms, review questions, and references for further reading. The text is engaging, user-friendly, and very readable.
