This workbook, a companion to Expert Learning for Law Students, includes questions and exercises to assist students in practicing the concepts and building the skills explained in the main text. The books help law students build the learning and analytical skills necessary to succeed in law school, on the bar exam, and in law practice. In particular, the workbook includes exercises designed to help students build lifelong learning skills; create study groups that really work; read court opinions using the approaches adopted by successful law students, by lawyers and by law professors; develop basic legal analysis skills; and prepare for and take law school examinations.
The book and workbook have been successfully used as part of law school introductory programs and in academic support programs. They also can be used by individual students as study guides or aids.
“I think this is an excellent resource for first-year students. It addresses many critical issues for success in law school such as reading court opinions, doing legal analysis, and performing on exams. It offers concrete strategies to help students organize concepts, memorize rules, and prepare for exams. It makes extensive use of charts, graphs, and diagrams, all of which are very effective to help the reader.”
— Gerry Hess, Professor of Law, Gonzaga University School of Law, and
Founding Director of the Institute for Law School Teaching
“Michael Schwartz has accomplished nothing less than the miraculous. . . . Expert Learning for Law Students provides what so many of us have searched for as the El Dorado of law school teaching — at last, a sound methodology that zeroes in like a laser beam on each of the discrete steps of the law-learning process and empowers students to master those steps incrementally.”
— Jeffrey Van Detta, Professor of Law, John Marshall Law School — Atlanta
