This book is a concise, non-promotional survey of bleaching,
dyeing, and finishing of textile materials—the area of textile manufacturing
traditionally referred to as "wet processing." It also introduces the broad
range of dyes and chemicals used in textile wet processing and the basic
concepts of color and color mesaurement. Its objective is to introduce
the reader to basic chemical and physical principles of bleaching, dyeing
and finishing of textiles.
This book is written for two types of readers: students in introductory
courses in wet processing textile colleges and in commuity colleges with
technical textile programs; and for audiences which need a quick and brief
introduction to textile wet processing; i.e., new textile employees with
a limited textile background or people working for chemical suppliers,
machinery suppiers and other types of suppliers.
As the only available book suitable for introductory textile courses,
this volume is brief, very readable, and designed to introduce concepts
in a clear-cut way. The text is generic in that it contains no trade names
and it does not promote specific products or processes. Finally, Perkins
has written the material so that readers with knowledge of inorganic and
organic chemistry can apply their knowledge. At the same time, the verbal
descriptions and figures are designed to make it easy for readers with
little or no knowledge of chemistry to understand the subject matter.
