The topic of offender rehabilitation generates intense debate. The authors consider offenders valued human beings who deserve a chance at redemption. Human rights texts to date have focused on legal rights but do not consider moral and social rights. Corrections practitioners need guidance to deliver offender rehabilitation within a human rights framework. Conceptual issues and practical application in the assessment, treatment, and management of offenders from a human rights perspective are addressed. The legal, policy, practice, and ethical implications are considered and it is argued that respecting the human rights of offenders makes good ethical and common sense.
